Name

Coach Jorge Perez is the Owner of the Miami Gardens Makos and currently serves as the Head Baseball Coach and Assistant Athletic Director at St. Thomas University (STU).

At STU, Coach Perez has built one of the most competitive programs in the Sun Conference, consistently preparing with the goal of winning conference championships and competing on the national stage. Under his leadership, the Bobcats have reached the NAIA Opening Round of the World Series in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2022.

His teams have also advanced to the NAIA Avista World Series in 2015, 2018, and 2019, finishing as National Runner-Up in both 2015 and 2019.

Beyond championships, Coach Perez is known for his commitment to teaching and developing young players—both on and off the field. The Makos’ central mission reflects that philosophy: to develop collegiate players and prepare them to return to their college programs stronger and more prepared for success.

Coach Perez earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from St. Thomas University in 2012. He resides in Kendall, FL, with his wife, Mitzie, and their two daughters, Mia (22) and Jenna (15).

Omar Porras is a dedicated and experienced Strength and Conditioning Coach with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Florida Atlantic University. With over a decade of expertise in developing elite athletes across multiple levels, Omar has built a reputation for optimizing athletic performance and promoting long-term success.

Omar began his career in 2013 at Bommarito Performance Systems, where he worked with NFL and MLB players. He later advanced to Major League Baseball, contributing to organizations such as the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox. His professional focus included physical development, data collection, nutritional management, and injury prevention.

A certified professional by the NSCA and fluent in both English and Spanish, Omar utilizes evidence-based training methodologies and cutting-edge technology to maximize athlete performance. Passionate about collaboration, he designs and implements training programs grounded in sound physiological principles.

Currently, Omar works closely with the Men’s Baseball and Women’s Lacrosse teams at St. Thomas University, where he continues to play a vital role in both player development and the university’s mission of athletic excellence.
